Plus Size Shein Haul Canada
As promised I have uploaded a review for the online Chinese retailer Shein. Shein is known for having very affordable and fashionable items, however they are strictly e-commerce based. I placed an order for close to $250 CAD worth of items ranging from tops, pants, jumpsuits, dresses, shoes, and even a purse. After using a 15% off discount, my total was $212.50 CAD.
Express shipping was free because my order was over the $165 CAD required, and had listed a three day delivery time pending processing, I was also forcefully charged $1.63 CAD as insurance amount (there was no opt out option). It took over a week and a half for me to receive my items, and three items (shoes, a pair of pants, a dress, and a purse) were refunded to my PayPal, assumably because they ran out of the items in the warehouse; bringing my total down to $166 CAD. I was also charged $30.62 CAD for customs, taxes, and duties as the items were coming in from China.
I generally wear a size 16 in all of my clothes which is considered a 1X but most of the people I had asked about Shein had told me to order a size up, so I ordered a size 2X in all the clothing. To be honest, I’m glad I ordered a size up because otherwise nothing would have fit.
Plus Knot Front Striped Wide Leg Jumpsuit - $25 CAD (Size 2X)
This jumpsuit is really cute, and comfortable on, and the size fits perfectly. It also has pockets, which is something I really appreciated. The material was a lot thinner than I had expected, but it will be a great piece for next summer.
Mock Neck Grid Print Form Fitting Dress - $15 CAD (Size 2X)
This was the only item with any stretch in it out of my order. This dress is really gorgeous in person, and I love the material. I found the shoulders to be a tad bit wide for me, but overall for $15 this dress is well worth it.
Self Belted Wide Leg Pants - $24 CAD (Size 2X)
These pants alone are the reason I will not be ordering from Shein again. This was the piece I was most excited about from my order, and unfortunately it came with a broken zipper. I contacted the customer support team from Shein and asked for a replacement pant and they refused, in the end they refunded me $10 CAD to get the zipper fixed myself.
Ruffle Trim Wide Leg Pants - $24 CAD (Size 2X)
These ruffle pants looked so adorable online, that I knew I had to order them. The material was once again not what I expected. The material of the pants was thick, and the pants overall were a lot shorter than I thought they would be.
Round Neck Striped Top With Pants (Coord Set) - $19 CAD (Size 2X)
Can you tell I’m uncomfortable in this outfit? When I pulled the pants out of the shopping bag, I thought Shein had accidentally sent me a medium because they were so small. I managed to get them over my butt for this photo, but I know if I tried to sit down they would split. If you do end up ordering this set, go up two/three sizes.
Tie Neck Lace Applique Mesh Yoke Top - $15 CAD (Size 2X)
This tie-up top was my favourite item from this order. It just fit perfectly, and was well made. The length is a classic t-shirt length, and the lace detailing around the neck is a nice touch.
Puff Sleeve Solid Top - $17 CAD (Size 2X)
This top is a great fashion essential. It would look fabulous with a pair of jeans, coloured pants, or even a skirt. The fit is comfortable, but there is not stretch in the fabric whatsoever.
Self Tie Neck Blouse - $12 CAD (Size 3X)
I originally ordered this tie-up blouse in a 2X but when I opened the Shein package it was a size 3X. I think the company may have noticed that the sizes of this top were too small, so they probably sent a size up from what everyone else was ordering. Either that, or they sent the wrong size by accident.
Slogan Print Tee - $13 CAD (Size 2X)
As a huge fan of the tv show, The Office, I put this shirt in my cart immediately. This is the only shirt that is a cotton blend, and I bought it for casual wear/pjs. The 2X was a good size for me, If i ordered a size smaller the words would have started to warp.
My overall experience with Shein has been disappointing. I found myself justifying the quality because of the price, however, if you can only wear three or four pieces for $200 CAD (with taxes and duties), you could easily buy something from a local clothing store for the same price and at much higher quality. I personally will not be shopping on Shein again, but if you decide to order from there make sure you check out the sizing chart for each item, and know that the clothes fit smaller than advertised.
